A door in Meteora

A door in Meteora

A precarious ascent to a door in one of the ‘abandoned’ monasteries at Meteora. Aside from the famous operating monasteries you can visit there are also some abandoned monasteries at Meteora. You usually have to hike to the abandoned monasteries, if you can reach them at all. Some are a mere cave, with refuse in them, but others are larger buildings. A few of the larger buildings are clearly renovated buildings that are in use. Still, I haven’t been able to determine who uses them or for what. Are they functioning monasteries that are closed to the public? Are they private homes? Businesses? I doubt the latter two, as the access would be incredibly difficult, but they are not listed as monasteries. I’d be curious if anyone knew. Anyhow, this a rather precarious entrance to one.
